Other Characters of Note

Kish

Countess Leanora Li Halan
Matsushida's aunt is a spry old woman inclined to scandal. When her estate was attacked by terrorists, she had her security chase the attackers into her favorite hedge maze, and then set fire to it and gunned down anyone who fled the flames.
Lim Evrard
A member of the Reeve's Guild, Lim is believed to be funding terrorist attacks on Kish as part of a Rampart independance movement. Matsushida has so far been unable to get him removed without starting a war with the Merchant Guilds.
Illuminatus Jared Flores
This old scholar is known to spend time debating with the conservative Bishop Xenos. As an Eskatonic priest, he takes interest in Ishwin culture and belief systems, and in Dervish mystical abilities.
Fars Ikoru
A Diwin Dervish from the Ishwin Confederacy that Jaana and Halley knew on Stigmata. Fars has very powerful Second Sight, and found his calling to fight against the chaos on Pandemonium caused by the failing terraforming engines there. Jaana believes he may hold a cure for her condition.

Criticorum

Michael Li Halan
Afflicted with Lycanthropy, Michael moved to Criticorum to find a more favorable lunar cycle. He's managed to keep his beast form in check through the use of a mystical circle a passing theurgist named Carter Feriel constructed for him.
Carter Feriel
Not much is known of this man. He has written at least three books, and some of them are on the Eskatonic Order's Restricted list. The Order claims he is not a member, but his writings show profound insight into theurgical processes.

Byzantium Secondus

Emperor Alexius Hawkwood
Alexius is only the second Emperor of the Known Worlds, having won the Emperor Wars and claimed the throne that Vladimir I created five hundred years before. With his new position, Alexius seems to have turned away from many of the family ties that brought him to power.
Baron Eviathan Hawkwood
Eviathan is the head of Alexius's order of Questing Knights. The Knight Commander has grown a little soft in his administrative role, but will boast until dawn about his youthful exploits during the Emperor Wars. Gwendolyn calls him 'Uncle', and is terribly fond of him.

Pentateuch

Philosophus Hideo Ackerman
Hideo is Jaana's mentor, having given her initial training in the Eskatonic way when they both were on Stigmata. He travels often, and considers his role to be a guide or teacher to help others find their way.
Arcadia
A 10-year old girl who exhibits strange knowledge and ability. Halley can't decide if she's the spirit of the planet Pentateuch, or a psychic little girl, or both. She is named after the first name Doramos chose for the world before settling on Pentateuch.
Thane Upect
Thane is a young scholar studying the Eskatonic Order as a Tertiary, or lay member. His parents are ranchers who moved to Kish to train and maintain Matsushida's Draga-beast experiment.
Arcadia's Father
An old sickly man who seems to be dying. When Halley saw him, he was hooked up to ancient life support equipment, and asleep. He bears a superficial resemblance to Doramos, but Arcadia says he doesn't have a name, yet. His health seems to be linked to Thane, somehow.
Baron Renato Fidencio Sebastian Castenda
This Hazat noble claims to have met Matsushida during the Li Halan's previous trip to Pentateuch--a trip Matsushida never made. Despite this, they've become solid friends as Renato showed Matsushida hints about his "second life".
Sir Robert Griffin Hawkwood, Warder of Agni
Robert so distinguished himself to the house that he was given a small fief on Pentateuch to keep him away from actual Hawkwood worlds.
Sir Paulus Li Halan
Arcadia says she saw Matsushida's grandfather about three years ago, during the same time period that Renato describes having met Matsushida. Paulus is known among the Li Halan for his independance and his dabblings in theurgical ritual, despite not being ordained as a priest. Matsushida hasn't seen him since he left Kish five years ago for parts unknown.

Historical

Doramos, the World Alchemist
The most gifted terraformer of the Second Republic, Doramos was able to work magic with a world, turning a lifeless wasteland into a beautiful paradise. He employed mystical methods in his work, and he is a subject of study for both scientists and occultists. Doramos' final and greatest work was Pentateuch. He was found dead in a shuttle orbiting the next planet in the system mere months after declaring Pentateuch finished.
Zenobiah Hawkwood
The daughter of Robert Hawkwood, she took up Planetary Governorship of Delphi when he died in 2610. Renowned for her clear head and battle prowess, Zenobiah is often portrayed with a large sword called Coeur de Leon, or the Crest of the Hawkwoods.
