What a great time I had. Amazing.
GEN CON actually originally stood for “The Geneva Convention” both as the obvious pun and because TSR started it in their home town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin--the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons.
GEN CON actually includes role-playing games, dice games, miniatures games, collectible card games, and live action role-playing (known as RPGs, dice games, miniatures games, CCGs, and LARPs, respectively.) I personally attended for the RPGs and CCGs. I played mostly Shadowrun and Middle Earth Role Playing for RPGs and Magic: the Gathering, Legend of the Five Rings, and Middle Earth: The Lidless Eye for CCGs.
What made the week amazing was the combination of great gamers, great game company employees, great game products, and great game adventures prepared. If you liked gaming, you couldn’t have a bad time at this place. I made some friends there which I will enjoy for years to come.
And yes, I’m already registered for 1998’s GEN CON. Hope to see you there.
