Silly Horde Words
A perennially out-of-date guide to the jargon in use around here.
All nouns can be and are verbed, unless otherwise indicated.
- agglty, int. or v.
- 1) int. The noise one makes
when shaken by the shoulders.  
- 2) v. To express agitation.
- 3) v. To shake someone by the shoulders.
- Plural
agglties, past aggltied.
Example:
Rogue shakes Trip. Trip agglty! Trip says, "Why am I shaken?"
- augh, int. or v.
- 1) A noise of agitated distress, and/or of shock.
Example:
Rogue says, "The secure server is down and the client
wants to know why noone has bought any inflatable Traci Lords beanie babies
in the last fifteen minutes!" Rogue runs around going augh augh augh!
- broken, adj.
- 1) Psychologically damaged.
- 2)
Disturbed by something unusual, difficult to comprehend, or funny, to the point
of speechlessness.
Examples:
Eric is broken; he believes all hot dog
vendors are agents of the FBI, and falls into an epileptic fit on
seeing one.
Chrisber says, "Don't stick straws up your nose. You broke
Marith!"
- buh, int.
- 1) A noise indicating "I can find no meaningful response to this information".
- 2) What you say when you're broken but still capable of speech.
- 3) A noise indicating "My brain cannot process this information."
Example:
Rogue says, "Pregnant adelie penguins prostitute themselves to other males in return for rocks to build their nests."
Chrisber says, "Buh".
- dwaoop, int.
- 1) The sound of a Norwegian single mother falling upwards in suddenly reversed gravity.
- fliff, v.
- 1) To lightly muss someone's hair.
- 2) To fluff someone's hair upward briefly.
- See poofle, fliffy.
- fliffy, adj.
- 1) The state of having just been fliffed.
- florn, v.
- 1) To wail dolefully about one's lot in life.
- adj. flornful
- meefle, n., v. or int.
- 1) n. The sound that Mariths make. Can
be cheerful, plaintive, sad or smug.
- meep, n., v., or int.
- 1) A small plaintive noise.
- merp, n. or int.
- 1) A small doleful noise, rather like meep but less cute and more dubious.
- Variant spelling mrp.
- miffle,v. or n.
- 1) A noise that Keelys make.
- 2) An indication that life contains ups and downs.
- morp, n. or int.
- 1) A small sound similar to merp or meep but even more doleful. In order to morp properly you must take
off your glasses and allow a lock of hair to fall into one eye.
Example:
Garrett says, "No sushi? None at all?" Garrett morp.
- poofle, v.
- 1) To extensively muss someone's hair.
- 2) To make someone's hair look like Kei's, from the Dirty Pair.
- See fliff, poofly.
- poofly, adj
- 1) The state of having just been poofled.
- proverbial moose whang, expression.
- 1) A kind of extreme suckage. Used for dramatic effect. May be expanded to "proverbial big hairy moose whang".
Example:
Image says "Proverbs 28:11. And the LORD said
unto him, Verily, it doth suck the moose whang. And Solomon said, yes,
LORD, I see that it doth."
- raar, int.
- 1) A noise that Flitterbys make when angry.
- 2) A noise of inarticulate but mild rage.
- 3) The noise you make when other people are discussing Magic:the Gathering too much.
Example:
Bill says, "No, really, I color-xeroxed the Mox Ruby and now I always win tournaments!" Flit *raar*
- shwwt, n. or v.
- 1) n. The sound of a grinding or broken
fan in a computer.
- 2) v. To make a noise like a grinding fan.
- Pronounced "shwhht".
- smeeb, int.
- 1) A noise that indicates "Doom is approaching on the morrow, so we might as well get some sleep."
- snark,v.
- 1) To snark is to be snide, particularly at
a specific target.
- Adj. snarky
Example:
hegemony snarks at new Pern players who get thirty-seven
firelizards on their first day and can't remember their names.
- snorb, int.
- 1) What humans yelling "Stop!" sound like to aliens.
Example:
Human: Stop thief! Bring back that cabbage patch kid! Alien: Snorb foo? Huh?
- snerk, v. or n.
- 1) A noise of mild sardonic amusement. More classy and less derogatory than a smirk.
Example:
Ayse says, "My coworker just stood on his head on the conference table and tried to juggle Java manuals with his feet! They're hauling him off in the van now." Chrisber snerks.
- snorfle, v.
- 1) To nuzzle someone's hair with your nose.
- Variant spelling for hedgehogs, snurfle.
- spang, v.
- 1) To become disturbed, rattled, or mildly
broken by something.
- 2) The behavior of a cat who must suddenly
race all over the house.
- See spla.
Example:
Marith goes spang at the phone; she cannot deal
with this obnoxious user.
- spla, v.
- 1) To go completely to pieces over something;
to be broken, or unable to function.
- Pronounced "splah".
Example:
Ayse's boss tells her to fix 1700 lines of code in the
next ten minutes. Ayse goes spla, melting into a little puddle on the
ground.
- sploot, v. or int.
- 1) A generic verb, which may be substituted for any verb in a sentence. Most often used in conjunction with weasel.
- 2) A generic interjection, indicating "I want to say something emphatic but am not sure what."
- sproing, v.
- 1) To leap up, esp. from a seat or from
a concealed position.
- suckweasel, n. or int.
- 1) A particularly low form of life, such as a parasite, or a marketing executive; a base person.
- 2) An expression of great frustration or disappointment.
- tiggie, n. or v.
- 1) n. A hedgehog.
- 2) v. To move like a hedgehog.
Example:
hegemony tiggies over to Chris, her nose twitching. "You have sushi. I can tell."
- tud,adv.
- 1) A sort of falling down, usually in response to some shock or to exhaustion.
Example:
Rogue reads the description of Liralen's dinner and falls over tud.
- tyop,n. or v.
- 1) The correct spelling of "typo".
- wibble, v., n.
- 1) v. To flail about indecisively; to
jitter.
- 2) n. A person who is wibbling.
Example:
Floth says, "The project is due Monday and we're supposed to
paint all of Brooklyn green tomorrow, augh!" Trip says, "Floth, you're
being a wibble again."
- ub, v or n.
- 1) A noise that Trips make.
- weasel, any
- 1) A generic word that may be substitutedfor any other word in a sentence. See sploot.
- 2) A slimy or unfair person.
- 3) As a verb, to "weasel" through or out of a situation or obligation.
Examples:
Liralen says, "So then I wrote this method that assigns the weasel to the other variable, and sploots this one over there."
Starling is approached by marketing weasels about a new concept for server architecture. She invites them to open the window and lean way, way out.
- wub, n or v.
- 1) n. A general noise, which can
be used to express any emotion.
- wum, n or v.
- 1) n. A noise that space parasites
make, caused by the warping of magnetic fields to power their flight.
- 2) v. To fly about or
whirr one's wings.
Example:
Trip flies around wum wum
wum.
