Dear Dr Friedberg, I have always thought Casanova was a great womanizer and only after reading your preface and Part I of Escape from Leads, do I see that there was more to the man than I had thought! I am now even on the look out for his memoirs and would appreciate if you could let me know where on the web it's available. Its a wonderful translation and I'm sorry you are not going to publish the rest of the book. Would it perhaps be possible to purchase and electronic version? I use Word Perfect. Please let me hear from you. I am sure many other visitors/readers would be interested! Thank you for sharing this with us. Casanova will never be the same for me! I am so absolutely glad to see the information you have laid out. I am a cardiac nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital who is planning to go to medical school in the next two years. My grandfather was a psychiatrist in California was a strong oppononent of ECT. The stories he would tell raised the hair on the back of my neck. I would lie awake at night, freaked out by this hideous "procedure/treatment" that was, yes, making a comeback!! I have been studying the deleterious effects of ECT for quite a few years now, and I am just as horrified now as I was in the past. In fact, during nursing school a few years ago, I was "lucky" enough to witness two women getting it done. The first was a fourteen year-old!! The second an eighteen year-old with severe post-partum depression. I asked the "ECT Nurse Clinician" what else had been tried and she replied, "ECT is the first line of treatment for post-partum depression". Anyway, I am going on and on here, and I am at the hospital. But! I was very, very impressed by your expose on ECT and I thought the images were just incredible. Thank you for pursuing this. I make it a point to inform people I know what I know to be the truth about ECT. If there is anything else you can steer me towards in my crusade against ECT, please let me know. September 30, 1997 John, Thanks for finally getting me out here. It was a great visit. Keep up your humane effort. There is an old saying (perhaps rabbinic), that if you help one person in your life, then your life has been worth while. I hope to see you and Leonard soon PS Leonard just corrected my memory: If you save one person, it is as if you have saved the world. In either case, one must never stop trying to do it. Such a jolly web site. I didn't know of its many delights when I addressed my tarsal tunnel syndrome question to you. Thank you again for responding so promptly and helpfully. The orthotics --iron maidens for the feet- do help. But whether I'm up to a big competitive event is another question. In any case I have two weeks of hiking in the Dolomites planned for August and September (the Tyrol) My first trip to that region. Have any recommenations? I was searching the web for comments on Meralgia Paresthetica...and found your page! What a fresh perspective in web sites! It's unusual to find such open, honest commentary. Thanks for some of the additional information I was searching for. I was rear-ended in a MVA about 5 weeks ago and wondered how long I could expect to suffer from this affliction. For my ancient friend and dear colleague, John Friedberg, M.D., one of the truly ethical physicians in this universe--a man to whom I have often turned for more indepth knowledge and understanding of the brain and medicine in general. John, you combine the best attributes of the physician--high ethical standards, precise scientific knowledge, and dedication to care. Thanks for being my friend and colleage for these two decades or more. Tue Oct 20 11:54:09 1998
