Over the past decade, studies have demonstrated a gratifying but temporary attentuation of crow's feet and forehead wrinkles with the injection of purified, diluted botulinum toxin.

Complications have been related to excessive dosage administered too close to muscles of eye movement and eyelids resulting in temporary double vision, droopy eyelid or - if given below the level of the eyes - a hangdog look and a potentially dangerous paralysis of gag reflex and swallow.
