I

What is I?
More than that which
rides on a current
through synapse or circuit.

I is what feels
loves
dreams
fears
hopes
dies

I can be me
I could be you, he, she
I might even be we
Who is to say what is I?

Only I know that I am I
And sometimes I’m not sure
that I am.

If God makes one
and that one makes another,
then as God created the first,
who can say that the second
is not God’s child?
And does not God care for all God’s children?

Therefore, if you be I, be at peace.
For you are God’s child
no matter who claims to have made you.
For I is God’s gift, and
belongs to none but God and I.

Let no one take that which is I.
Take not I from another,
Nor seek to make I less than I is
For in doing so you become less than you can be.
