Victorian Christmas

Sometime early in the afternoon on 18 December a bunch of people pile into V.I.'s car and zoom up to Nevada City for Victorian Christmas. V.I. is most likely driving; Chryse, Genni and Shariko go with her. Prior to this they found Genni a not-too-expensive Victorian dress in one of the vintage shops in the city. Other people may or may not have gotten costuming. Unless someone claims otherwise, the drive up is uneventful. V.I. has no problem getting us two rooms (I expect) at a bed & breakfast. At this point y'all should start telling me your opinion on what occurs. Who rooms with who? Who dresses up? What's it like?

-----

Genni will offer to room with Chryse, on the basis that the costume was her idea, and Genni will need help with buttons up the back. Genni would also have agitated (at least a little) for other people to dress up, "so I can at least embarass myself in company."

What's the fair like? Is there snow by Christmas? I assume some shopping is likely to occur, given the tourist-trap nature of Nevada City during a festival.

-----

We really need Sherilyn to do this properly. I believe, though, that she thought there'd already be snow. What do Mages shop for in Nevada City? And do you realise this leads into another thread of 'I've been living with these people for over three months and I have no idea what they'd want for presents?' :-)

Chryse will dress up, then, but she'll make certain to point out that it's only to save Genni feeling too self-conscious. (She'll also admit that since putting Genni in a dress was her idea she really ought to wear a dress too.)

----- Shariko agrees to go somewhat reluctantly, but soon becomes very amused by the whole thing in a sociological sort of way. She tries on some of the dresses in whatever vintage clothing store the others are shopping at, but eventually settles for a black tailored men's suit, with her hair in a single braid. She rooms with Genni by preference, and with Vi if that doesn't happen. Mostly she wanders around after the others being fascinated by the snow and indifferent to the tourists. Shariko has a definite penchant for buying tasteful yuppie items, especially striking but conservative clothes. She peruses any New Ageish stores at great length, but probably doesn't buy anything.

(How detailed do we want to get with this? Are there events like carol singing, snowball fights, sleigh rides, etc? Do people go to any of them?)

On Monday or Tuesday (16/17 December) Chryse, Genni, Shariko and perhaps V.I. all go shopping at vintage stores. The original plan is just to find Genni a Victorian dress, but Genni explains that she'd rather embarass herself in company. Chryse is forced to admit that since dressing up was her idea, she ought to do it. They find Genni and Chryse dresses, and Shariko a more masculine outfit.

Early in the afternoon on 18 December (Wednesday) the four pile into V.I.'s car and zoom up to Nevada City for Victorian Christmas. V.I. somehow manages to get two rooms at a bed & breakfast with little prior warning -- someone must have cancelled at the last minute. In the car Genni asserts that she and Chryse are rooming together, since the costuming was her idea and Genni wants help getting into the dress.
