Background
Nora Louise Stanwyck
Description: Early-to-mid-twenties, fiery-red hair, green eyes, pale skin,
no visible freckles. Smokes a lot, dresses well. Average height and
build.
Born: November 11, 1918, in Barstow, California, to Louise Stanwyck, widow
of Walter Stanwyck, store proprietor in Barstow, and killed in action in
France.
Nora took a correspondence course in secretarial work and went to L.A.,
where she eventually got a job as a secretary and general Girl Friday with
the P.I. office of Zachetti and Barrows, where she's worked for the last
couple of years, becoming more involved with the operations side of the
business.
Robert Andrew "Andy" Barrows is the junior partner, late twenties, good
looking, volunteered for the army as soon as war was declared in '41. Nora
and Andy had a sort of understanding. She never promised to wait for him,
but it was implied, and Nora has no intention of looking for someone else,
but if the right opportunity presented itself, she might stray. On the
other hand, she really does care for Andy.
Joe Zachetti was your typical private eye; in his forties, a bit overweight,
scruffy, gruff without being threatening. Around late January, Joe got
himself shot by some guy whose mistress was the wife of a client. Shot
and killed. Since then, Nora has been keeping the agency running single
handed, and managing to make ends meet, but is only accepting easy cases.
She's likely to work on delivering justice through less official channels
if presented with a deserving case.
Edward Billings is the lawyer on retainer for Zachetti and Barrows. He's
in his early thirties, middle-class, a bit too smooth. He's taken Nora
out to dinner once or twice, and may think there's something going on
there, though Nora isn't convinced (yet?).
