Go Bears!!!

That's a good way to start just about anything. In this case, it's college basketball, and for me, that means Harmon Gym. I've rearranged and polished a few things since last year. The real Harmon Gym will be undergoing major changes in the next year or two, and this place will, too. Suggestions are always welcome, of course.

Cal Basketball

I've been a Cal basketball fan for a long time. I went to my first game back in 1973 (I was 12), and saw the Bears demolish Washington State 98-57. I have vivid memories of the fans in Harmon going nuts, chanting for Cal to score 100 points, the straw hat band...

So as an undergrad in some of the lean years (1979-84), I suffered through a lot. But I was there! And I've since followed the Bears to such places as Little Rock, Arkansas and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and loved every minute. These pages are my attempt to pass some of that thrill on to others.

Other places for Bears online

Here's an incomplete, but perhaps useful, list of other Web sites that have Cal Sports themes.

The official Cal athletics site This is quite useful. It covers all sports, including non-revenue sports, and the material is updated regularly.
Pac-10 Conference site Press releases. Lots of them.
The Sporting Green The original--what more can I say? James Landay has been running this site for ages. It's sort of like a virtual Chronicle sports section without the annoying columnists!
CyberBears Cal Sports site There's a lot here, including chat and discussion, and all about Cal Sports!
Adam's Go Bears! page Good spot for Cal sports in particular, and Cal in general. Run by Adam Resnick.
The Gate Columns and stuff from the online Examiner and Chronicle. You can even read Glenn Dickey's columns, if you so desire.

* Note that I mean no disrespect to the late Walter A. Haas, Jr. or to the Haas family, but this will always be Harmon Gym: not "Harmon Arena," not "Haas Pavilion." Besides, they have a whole business school named after them!
