My first car was a
1971 1600 which I drove to death.
I replaced it with a 1981 320i (henna red) in 1988.
I have pictures of the front and rear.
Due to motherhood and trying to stay home to raise the baby, I sold the 320, and then bought the car of my dreams- a 1972 2002 tii, which I owned till August 1997.
I attended the BMW CCA's performance driving school at Sears Point two years ago, but the 2002 had eaten its alternator just before the scheduled day, so I drove my friend Peter's 528i (then recently rebuilt) instead. I highly recommend saftey school and track school to anyone who drives!
Since then, I have owned a 1991 750il, which is about as far opposite a 2002tii as you can get- a wonderful luxury car, with plenty of power.
My current car is a 1986 535i.
Oh, and my recommendations for mechanics: when I have the time, I drive down to Santa Cruz and go to Catalpa Street Garage, where I took the 1600 many years ago. When I can't get away, I go to Beck BMW Service in Oakland.
